The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off their latest home stand with a 6-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, on Wednesday afternoon in Phoenix.
Arizona starting pitcher Patrick Corbin improved to (9-4) on the season, and lowered his ERA to 3.15 by tossing 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits, while striking out nine.
David Peralta got the D-Backs on the board in the third inning when he tripled in Jon Jay and Paul Goldschmidt. Eduardo Escobar 's sacrifice fly scored Peralta, and the Diamondbacks led 3-0.
In the fourth, Arizona added another run, when Ketel Marte scored on a groundball hit by Patrick Corbin.
The Diamondbacks put their final two runs on the board with two outs in the seventh. Escobar's hard hit double to right knocked in Peralta and AJ Pollock.
Peralta finished four for five, with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jon Jay and Alex Avila had two hits each. Escobar finished with three RBIs. Brad Ziegler replaced Corbin with one out in the eighth inning, and Matt Andriese finished off the game in the ninth. Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez dropped to (8-9).
Corbin said, "I felt I made some quality pitches early on. Alex (Avila) and I were on the same page, so it worked out really well".
The Diamondbacks improve to (64-52), and lead the NL West by 1/2 game over the Dodgers, who lost at Oakland last night 3-2. Arizona will play nine games on the road, with three at Cincinnati beginning Friday night, before heading to Texas to face the Rangers for two games, followed by a four game series in San Diego. The D-Backs return home on August 21 to face the Angels.
