PRESCOTT VALLEY – The Northern Arizona Suns launched the team’s brand identity tonight with the unveiling of the NAZ Suns logo & uniforms during a community event at the Prescott Valley Events Center. Just last month, the Phoenix Suns purchased their NBA Development League affiliate, the Bakersfield Jam, and moved the team to Prescott Valley, where they will begin play during the 2016-17 season.
NAZ Suns President Chris Presson was joined by Phoenix Suns alumni Tom Chambers, Steven Hunter and Tim Kempton, and broadcaster Tom Leander, to reveal the new brand. In a special nod to basketball in northern Arizona, the team’s uniforms were unveiled by two local high school basketball players, senior guard Tyler Bell of Prescott High School, and sophomore guard Tim Young of Bradshaw Mountain High School. The Suns Gorilla and Suns Dancers were also in attendance.
The Northern Arizona Suns primary logo resembles the sunburst from the Phoenix Suns original logo, a nod to the storied history of Suns basketball in the state of Arizona. The sixteen sun rays represent the year the Northern Arizona Suns were formed, 2016, and the triangle at the top of the logo represents “True North,” a reference to the proximity of Prescott Valley, and the entire northern part of our state, to Phoenix.
The team revealed a white home uniform and deep purple road uniform, both consistent with current Phoenix Suns colors. The white jersey features the acronym “NAZ” across the front, representing Northern Arizona, while the road uniform features the team’s full name, “Northern Arizona Suns”. Both the home and away shorts include the Phoenix Suns primary logo on one side and Northern Arizona Suns logo on the other.
Following the brand launch, fans took advantage of the opportunity to shoot around on the court and enjoyed inflatables, interaction with Suns entertainers and many other family-friendly festivities. To celebrate the new brand identity, the first 100 fans in attendance received a complimentary NAZ Suns t-shirt, featuring the new Northern Arizona Suns primary logo.
Last month, the Phoenix Suns announced the purchase and relocation of its NBA D-League affiliate to Prescott Valley, where the team will begin play during the 2016-17 season. The Northern Arizona Suns will play a total of 24 home games at the Prescott Valley Event Center, as part of a record 22-team league. Fans in northern Arizona will have an opportunity to witness NBA-level talent on a nightly basis, as evidenced by the fact that 39% of NBA rosters at the end for the 2015-16 regular season were comprised of players with D-League experience.
Fans interested in season tickets can guarantee their seats with a $50 deposit at NAZSuns.com or over the phone at 928-772-SUNS. The team is also continuing a unique sweepstakes on its website where fans can enter to win lifelong season tickets.
