PHS Scores A New Look In Gym

20 September 2017

New scoreboards for PHS Gym.

If you have been to the Prescott High School Gym in the past few days, you might have noticed something has changed. New scoreboards have replaced the old ones..

Prescott High School Athletic Director Missy Townsend said, "I have been working on getting a new scoreboard in the main gym for the last year.  Shortly after we got the funding from Maverik for the outdoor board, I began looking at ways to replace the 25+year old scoreboards in the gym.  I knew I wanted to get the same type of system as our outdoor boards, so when I was approached by ScoreVision (company of our new boards), to assist me in selling sponsorship in order to purchase the board. I jumped at the offer.  The agreement between us and ScoreVision is that they would go out and sell the sponsorship to local businesses and once they sold enough to purchase the board we would install, then anything they sell afterwards (5 year agreement between us) we split the revenue.”

Townsend added, "As an AD I knew I didn't have the time to market the board, and so the agreement was a win/win.  We get a new board and we get revenue from the board as well."

It took ScoreVision approximately 6 months to garner enough sponsors to pay for the boards which was $77,000 (with installation an additional $8,000).  The athletic departments all in for the indoor board was $18,000.  This was paid by girls and boys basketball boosters, wrestling boosters, boys and girls volleyball and the athletic department.

The installation of the boards took approx. one week between special fabrication by Weedon Enterprises who built a custom frame to hang the boards from as well as Boergen Electric (all electrical) and Arizona Telephone Technology, Inc. (cabling) and finally installation by ScoreVision.

Here is a link to the scoreboard company (they describe all the features and in and outs of the board) can do everything:)

Next on the list for improvements is some sound improvements, using sound paneling, to the main gym and improvements to the main field.  "These are my next wish list items as we look to maintain and update PHS athletics," Townsend said..

Photos are of finishing touches of install showing how the boards will look in operation.
