Friday afternoon, kids were out of school, parents off of work, time to kick off an amazing weekend and there was no better way to do just that than a visit to the Yavapai County Fair. Friday night was Family Fun Night for the Yavapai County Fair and fun was certainly first order on the list. In the arena events like the Greased Pig, Keg Race, Calf Dressing, and Money Calf all took place along with other fun events. Bands 5th in a Wheel and Ash Black performed on the main stage behind the grandstand. At both events onlookers cheered and enjoyed the festivities offered.
Wandering the Yavapai County Fair is an absolute must. Travel around behind the grandstand and so many wonders wait for you. Take a walk through the butterfly exhibit. You can hold a sugar wand and experience the wonder of having one of these delicate little creatures land on your own wand. Continue your journey around the grounds and see amazing works of art in the photography contest, the agriculture/horticulture and floriculture contests. See the creative arts and craftsmanship or homemaking exhibits or taking in a few home brews. Livestock of all kinds are all around the fairgrounds. Near the entry you will come across pigs, sheep, and goats. Next to the grandstand you will see every kind of rabbit, chicken, goose, and turkey you can possibly imagine.
Travel just past the grandstand and suddenly you will find yourself breathing in the wonderful scents of the foods of the Yavapai County Fair. Wonderful smells of funnel cakes and corndogs as well as corned beef sandwiches, pizza, fried pickles, and more. Treat yourself to a cotton candy, an ice cold lemonade, or a tasty Dole Whip ice cream, you won’t be sorry. There is just something special about the fare you can get while at the fair.
Moving along past the food vendors you will find yourself in the fairway. The fairway is a dreamlike place filled with fun and breathtaking rides, challenging carnival games, and so many other activities. Bright lights of the rides aided to a twilight atmosphere after dark. Children pulled their parents by the hand eager to play another game or see one of the rides in motion. Teenagers ran in packs from one ride to the next ready for their next thrill. Couples, older adults, families, and friends all mingled packing the fairway all adding to a magical experience.
