On Tuesday morning, local firefighters descended upon Pine Summit Camp in Groom Creek to help support the Arizona Burn Foundation by setting up a 20,000 gallon pool. Camp Courage has been in operation for 27 years, providing an opportunity for children with burn injuries to experience a summer camp trip without prejudice. For the last twenty years, the local firefighting community has supported the program by setting up the pool annually a week prior to the arrival of the campers. Over twenty volunteers from Prescott Fire, Groom Creek Fire, Central Arizona Fire, US Forest Service, as well as several retired firefighters came together to assemble and fill the massive pool. In the spirit of family and to test the water quality, firefighters brought their children and grandchildren to the event which ended with a barbeque.
Fundraising efforts by the firefighters in support of Camp Courage will continue in the coming days, first with the 23rd annual Burn Camp “Cantina Night” which will be held Friday June 2 at the Holiday Courtyard on Whiskey Row starting at 6pm, then with the 23rd annual Burn Camp Open golf tournament to be held at the Antelope Hills Golf Course on June 17th. All proceeds from both events will go to the Arizona Children’s Burn Camp. Further information for both events can be found on the Prescott Firefighter’s Charities website at prescottffcharities.org.
