On Sale This Week: Turkey and Chicken

02 November 2012

On sale this week:

Chicken and Turkey, of course.

Well, what else did you expect? It's November. But, count your lucky blessings, because November is a terrific month to start stocking up your pantry and freezer. If you can double your food budget this month, you probably won't go wrong. It's also the month that food banks need gargantuan piles of donations. Weather is colder, budgets are tighter, holidays are special but pricey. So, if you can toss in a few extra items to your cart that can be donated to the food banks, you'll be doing a very good thing.

That being said, there are some other great bargains out there, like T-Bone steak for $4.99 lb, strawberries BOGO, milk and more.

Just be sure to study the ads carefully, eat a little first and take a list with you to the store to help protect against impulse shopping.

Comparing Prices this Week - Turkey

Albertsons: They will match competitor prices, or give you a free turkey (up to 15.99 lb) if you spend $100 You'll need the coupon for the turkey, so pick up a sale flier when you go into the store if you don't have one.

Fry's: $.79 for Kroger frozen turkey.

Safeway: $.79 lb. For Safeway brand, 8-24 lb; $.99 for Butterball 10-24 lb. Minimum purchase of $25 or $30 may apply.

Best Deals on Marked-down Halloween Candy

Everybody has their Halloween candy at half price. So, that means whatever store started at the lowest original price, they'll have the best marked-down price.

So, WalMart has the lowest original price. However, it appears that Fry's has more variety, for example, they were the only one with Junior Mints.

WalMart has the lowest original prices on Halloween candy, and it's all 50% off

A reader also reported that Dollar General had markdowns on their candy, but only at 25%. However, since it's likely their prices started at a lower cost to begin with, it might be a very good place to check out.

Another thing to note is that WalMart is marking down all costumes and Halloween accessories by 75%. You might want to pick out your kids' costumes for next year now!

(Editor's note: For this comparison, we checked the Willow Creek Safeway and Fry's; Albertsons in Prescott and the WalMart on Gail Gardner way.)
