Local church pastor and disc jockey team up to create a local podcast show.

(PRESCOTT, AZ, August 3 2018) - A Preacher and a Disc jockey walk into a bar… Sounds like a set up from an old joke book, but Ron Merrell and Bo Woods aren’t joking around when it comes to the business of podcasting.  Merrell is a pastor at Heights Church with a background steeped in comedy, “ When I was growing up I had my heart in the church and my mind on comedy. While attending John Brown University, I was making money writing jokes for Jay Leno’s Tonight Show monologues”.

Woods grew up in a radio family. He’s the son of National Radio Hall of Fame air personality, Jack Woods. “My father was half of a radio morning team show. I followed in his footsteps when I got into radio, but it wasn’t until I started working with Ronnie that I knew exactly what he did.” The two use their backgrounds in communications to present a 6-day a week, 20-minute-long podcast. The podcast originates from Woods’ home in Prescott Valley, Arizona.  Woods said, “Our basic premise is to entertain each other, relating life experiences and observations. I believe that if we’re having fun then the listener is too." The online episodes can be heard on podcast providers such as Apple iTunes, Sticher and Google Play. The Ronnie & Bo Show has it own website, Facebook page and even an Instagram and Twitter account.

Merrell and Woods have several things in common. They both respect the art of comedy and list acts like Lewis & Martin, Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Newhart, Steve Martin and Jay Leno as some of their inspirations. “One of our logos, where I am squeezing Ronnie’s mouth was a copy of a Lewis & Martin image,” Woods said.

The two men both moved to the Quad Cities, from Southern California, to make a better life for them and their families. “I knew of Prescott because my grandfather, Ron Coffee, played football on the 1945 Badgers team” Merrell added.

The two podcasters are taking their project seriously, “Podcasting is really challenging the radio industry”, Woods said. “We approach this like a radio, family-friendly, morning show. We even strive to have sponsorships, as a matter of fact our show is currently being sponsored by local real estate company, Prescott Realty Inc.”

A podcast is an episodic series of digital audio or video files that a user can download and listen to. They run the gambit from Oprah Winfrey to Adam Corolla, Dennis Miller and just a couple of guys who are getting together 6 days a week to make each other laugh.
