Prescott Fire Department, with assistance of the Prescott Firefighter’s Charity, Arizona Crisis Team (ACT), and Mayor Mengarelli came to the aid of a family of nine, five adults and four children, that was displaced by a fire this week. Local firefighters responded to a structure fire on Lincoln Avenue early Friday morning and found an attic fire in progress. While the firefighters were able to put out the fire and even save the Christmas presents, the family was displaced from the home and their personal possessions ruined. ACT provided initial assistance to the family, helping to get them into two hotel rooms while the Red Cross has stepped in to help keep the family in a hotel until the homeowner’s insurance kicks in.
To further aid the family, the Prescott Firefighter’s Charity provided support by financially backing a shopping run early Saturday morning. The charity footed the bill as three engine companies, members of ACT, and the Mayor with two of his children descended upon Walmart and purchased $700 worth of winter clothing for the four children. An additional $200 in gift cards were also purchased to help with any other immediate needs. The engine companies that fought the fire were able to hand deliver the gifts to the appreciative family later that morning.
