After chasing the suspects, two were caught and detained.

On August 17, at approximately 2:45 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Offices deputies arrived in the 14700 block of Cow Poke Way, Cordes Junction, regarding an alarm activation call. Deputies quickly located 3 suspects in a wash area below a storage structure with its alarm still sounding. As deputies approached the suspects and identified themselves, all 3 suspects ran heading towards Highway 69. The victim’s property is completely fenced with barbed wire and displays several no trespassing signs.

Deputies gave chase and were able to detain 25-year-old Tracy Morgan from Spring Valley. During a search of Morgan’s person, deputies found drug paraphernalia and a gram of methamphetamine. Scrap metal that had been removed from the victim’s yard was found by deputies in the wash area where the suspects were initially seen. Deputies later learned the suspects set off alarms after attempting to enter a garage and residence on the property.

A second suspect ran to a tan colored Ford truck and sped away crashing through a closed gate to escape. Deputies broadcast the information and knowledge the outstanding suspects were likely from Spring Valley. A deputy responding to the call saw the suspect’s truck travelling at high speed north on Highway 69. The deputy caught up with the truck as it turned onto Spring Lane from Highway 69. The suspect failed to stop as directed and continued at speeds of 60 mph on the residential street. The deputy backed away after he saw the truck approaching an area where 3 juveniles were standing on the roadway shoulder. The suspect ignored their presence and continued at high speed and within several feet of where they stood. As the deputy caught up to the truck, it turned on Trails End Road and stopped in an adjacent cul-de-sac. The driver ran and was eventually taken into custody near his girlfriend’s home. He was identified as 48-year-old Kevin Cole.

Deputies are working to confirm identity of the third suspect who was not caught. Updates will follow.

Both suspects were booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center. Morgan was charged with 3 counts of Burglary, Resist Arrest, and Possess Dangerous Drug. Cole was charged with Burglary, 3 counts of Endangerment and Property Damage. Both remain in-custody, each on a $25,000 bond.
