STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX (June 24, 2009) – Today Rep. Andy Tobin (R-Paulden) was named “Representative of the Year” by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry for sponsoring bills this session that reduce burdens on the business community. “Rep. Tobin has been a tireless supporter of the business community and truly understands the regulatory issues that Arizona businesses face,” Allison Bell, Vice President of Government Relations of the Arizona Chamber said. “We are pleased to honor him as our Representative of the Year,” she added. An example of a pro-business bill supported by Rep. Tobin is HB2240 which provides a more stable year-to-year business climate by prohibiting any state agency from adopting rules which could result in monetary or regulatory cost increases to other agencies, political subdivisions or Arizona citizens. The Paulden Republican is a 30-year member of various chambers and is also a small business owner who said, “It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award, and being a lifelong member of the chamber makes it even more special.” “What’s good for business is good for Arizona,” the Majority Whip added. According to the Arizona Chamber, Rep. Tobin is the embodiment of a pro-business legislator. He has been a tireless supporter of the business community and a voice of reason throughout one of the most demanding legislative sessions in Arizona’s history. The Representative has remained steadfast on finding alternatives to tax increases which will speed Arizona’s economic recovery while attracting new business from other states. About Rep. Andy Tobin: Rep. Andy Tobin was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2006, where he served as Vice-Chairman of the House K-12 Education Committee. In 2008, he was re-elected to the House and was also elected by his peers to serve as the Majority Whip. In addition to his leadership duties, he also serves on the Banking and Insurance Committee and Rules Committee. He is the past national president of the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce and during his tenure worked hand-in-hand with the Reagan and Bush administrations on passage of the Line Item Veto and Balanced Budget Amendment. Locally, Rep. Tobin has served as a member of the Sharlot Hall Executive Board of Directors; Prescott Good Gun; Arizona Rifle and Pistol Associations; the National Rifle Association; the Phoenix Jaycees; and the Prescott and Prescott Valley Chambers of Commerce. Rep. Andy Tobin was born in New York City and moved to Phoenix in 1979 where he worked in banking and real estate lending for 13 years. Sixteen years ago, Rep. Tobin and his family moved to Dewey, Arizona, and he started an employee benefit company, TLC Employee Benefits and Consulting.
