Work is continuing on the Williamson Valley Road Reconstruction Project this week. City of Prescott officials note although 1 lane of traffic will remain open in both directions, motorists may experience delays, frequent lane shifts and traffic stops as construction equipment and personnel move through the work zone. Installation of water and sewer lines is complete and crews will be testing the newly installed lines throughout the week before these services are connected to the city wide utility system. Crews will also be constructing storm water catch basins along the project area from Shadow Valley Ranch Road to Sidewinder Road and pouring and forming retaining walls. While water and sewer and retaining wall work will largely occur off the roadway, motorists should be aware of lane restrictions, flagging operations and reduced speeds. Work hours are 7 am to 6 pm through Friday.

A Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy has discovered 60 thousand dollars in drug money. Last Thursday afternoon, the Deputy stopped a vehicle driven by 23 year old Oklahoma resident Victor Robertson on South Interstate 17 near Cordes Junction. Robertson committed several moving violations, including an unsafe lane change and failure to signal. He denied permission for the deputies to search the vehicle, but Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn explains the K-9 alerted on the car right away. D’evelyn adds the K-9 deputy also alerted to the odor of narcotics on the money.
Inside the car, deputies located a light bulb modified for use as a meth pipe with a useable amount of meth and a container with an additional gram of meth. Robertson was booked for possession of dangerous drugs, money laundering and DUI drugs. One week ago, 38 year old Armando Padilla and 39 year old Caroline Pond, both Tucson residents were arrested after 38 pounds of cocaine and 5 pounds of meth were discovered in the trunk of the vehicle. The wholesale value of the drugs is estimated in excess of 860 thousand dollars. This stop also occurred on I-17 in the Cordes Junction area.
