Here's the President's Day news.

The Dewey-Humboldt Historical Museum Subcommittee meets at 10 tomorrow morning. The purpose of the special session is to discuss the Museum proposal and possible development of a recommendation to Council. The proposal involves the purchase of the old bank and church building on Main Street for a museum, which will be managed by the Historical Society Board. Earlier this month, funding options were discussed and Councilwoman and Subcommittee member Nancy Wright suggested the building be purchased and leased to the Historical Society for 18 months, which will give the Society time to obtain grant funds to purchase the property from the Town.

At 2 tomorrow afternoon, the Dewey-Humboldt Board of Adjustment will meet to discuss the Planner and Board processes, review the new application, packet forms and sample planner’s hearing report, the time lines for packet distributions, the planner’s pre-application review and interview and guidelines for Board site visits.

Both meetings will be held in Council chambers on South Highway 69.

Golden Plate winners have been announced in Yavapai County. According to County Community Health Services, this Award is given to establishments that perform above and beyond on their food inspections. To meet the Award criteria, an establishment can’t receive any critical violations and must have a Food Safety Certified Manager and an approved Food Safety Plan. Those who have won the Award 6 years in a row include the Del Rio and Territorial Elementary Schools in Chino Valley, the Daniel Bright School and Nature’s Pantry in Cottonwood; the Granite Hills Retreat Center and Washington Traditional School in Prescott and Prescott High School; the Copper Canyon Academy in Rimrock and the Sedona Adult Community Center. Winners who have won an award for all 7 years of the program include the Taco Bell restaurant in Prescott and the Kachina Point Health Center in the Village of Oak Creek. Winners will be recognized during upcoming Board of Supervisors meetings.

A former teacher has been arrested after child pornography images are allegedly discovered on his computer. Thirty-three year old Randy Young had previously been under investigation for an inappropriate relationship with a student at American Heritage Academy in Cottonwood, and a staff believed his computer might have documentation of the relationship. Young had been arrested by Cottonwood Police late last month after providing false identity when he was contacted in the company of a juvenile student while off campus. He had posted bond and was released. Young apparently left the laptop in his former classroom and when Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Detectives reviewed its contents, images of child pornography were discovered. Young has been arrested for 11 counts involving sexual exploitation of a minor.

Five time Grammy winner BJ Thomas entertained a packed Yavapai College Performance Hall in Prescott on Saturday night. Thomas, who was the featured act for the 5th annual Valentines for Veterans Concert, sang well-known favorites such as “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Mighty Clouds of Joy” and the Number 1 hits “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head” and “(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song.” Thomas says he was honored to be a part of this and other Valentines for Veterans concerts across the country. On Friday, Thomas visited with veterans at the Bob Stump VA Medical Center on Highway 89.
