Numerous Capital Improvement projects will be before the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors. As part of its meeting at 9 Monday morning, the Board will consider a proposal from Tiglas Engineering Associates for the design of the modified cooling system in the Camp Verde Superior Court building. Other consideration items include a contract with Exhibit One Corporation to provide the Prescott Lakes Parkway Juvenile Justice Center with courtroom audio and video technology, 2 minor easements at the Justice Center site, an increase in the architectural contract with Bamrauk Architecture for additional services to the County Morgue and use of the statutory process for procuring Construction Manager at Risk construction services. Supervisor Tom Thurman explains there will also be a bid considered for sewer repairs at the County Courthouse. The meeting will be held at the County Administrative Services Building on Fair Street in Prescott.
The Dewey-Humboldt Historical Museum Subcommittee has scheduled a meeting for 10 Monday morning. The purpose of the special session is to discuss funding options for the proposed museum and a recommendation to Council on those options. It has been proposed that the Town purchase the old bank and church building on Main Street for the purpose of leasing it to the Historical Society, which would operate the museum. The subcommittee, which is chaired by Vice Mayor Mark McBrady and has Councilwomen Denise Rogers and Nancy Wright as members, will also consider suggestions, alternatives and scenarios. The meeting will be held in Council chambers on south Highway 69.
A photo exhibit honoring Arizona’s soldiers killed in the War on Terror is now open to the public. The “Remembering Our Fallen from Arizona” display was unveiled yesterday afternoon at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. University officials note this is the first stop on the tour in Arizona for the exhibit, which was created by Bill and Yvonne Williams of Patriotic Productions in Omaha, Nebraska. The exhibit is sponsored by Bellevue University, a private non-profit university in Nebraska founded in 1966 with the charter of serving this country’s military heroes. There is no charge to view the exhibit, which is located on the first floor of the Library and Learning Center on the Prescott campus on Willow Creek Road. Viewing hours are 10 to 4 through next Thursday.
The Arizona Sundogs start their longest road trip of the season this weekend. At 6:05 tonight and tomorrow night, the Sundogs will take on the Missouri Mavericks. These 2 teams last played in October and the Mavericks won all 3 games. Missouri is coming off a 5 to 4 shootout loss last Friday and an 8 to 3 loss Saturday, both to the Quad City Mallards. Forward Jesse Perrin says the Sundogs’ 6 to 3 win against the Fort Wayne Komets at home last Saturday was a real confidence builder. All the teams the Sundogs will face on this road trip are in the Turner Conference. Arizona currently sits in last place in the Berry Conference, only 2 points behind the Laredo Bucks. Increased DUI patrols will be in place for Super Bowl Sunday. The Tri-City DUI Task Force has planned a saturation patrol as part of ongoing efforts to combat impaired driving. With many parties associated with the Super Bowl, the Task Force is reminding people of the need to make good choices when celebrating and enjoying the game. Prescott Police Lieutenant Andy Reinhardt explains there are some alternatives for those who plan on partying during the big game. The Task Force will have a visible command post set up in the Yavapai College parking lot on East Sheldon Street, but officers will be patrolling throughout the county.
The Town of Prescott Valley will be using the procedure it has used in the past to fill a vacancy. Last night, Council discussed the method to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Henry Schmitt on January 23rd. Council agreed to use an accelerated process that will allow Town Clerk Diane Russell to advertise for applications for the position next week. Town Manager Larry Tarkowski explains what will happen after applications are turned in by the February 13th deadline. The new Council member is expected to be seated by March 8th. Tarkowski adds the appointment won’t be for the rest of Schmitt’s term. Also last night, Council heard a Mid-Year Financial Review from Management Services Director Bill Kauppi. Kauppi told Council he expects about a 2 and a half million dollar gap between expenditures and revenues for the upcoming budget year.
