Chris Kuknyo to step down from PV Chamber.

A $2000 cash reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest of construction site burglary suspects. According to Yavapai Silent Witness, break-ins to storage units located at construction sites in Cordes Junction, Prescott and Prescott Valley have been reported to their respective law enforcement agencies. For months now, Yavapai Silent Witness has been offering a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspects in these cases. For a while, the burglaries seemed to stop but sometime over this last weekend, the thieves struck again at a site off Fain Road. Last month, suspects stole nearly 14 thousand dollars worth of construction equipment from four locked Conex boxes in the 1100 block of Prescott Lakes Parkway and 150 dollars in copper wire from a Conex box in a commercial yard in the 2600 block of Liberator Drive in Prescott. Anyone who has information about these burglaries is asked to contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.

The Prescott Valley Town Council will consider the Yavapai County Hazard Mitigation Plan at 5:30 tonight. According to Public Works Director Norm Davis, this effort includes 11 total jurisdictions that have developed an update to the Plan, which was developed and accepted in 2006 and requires an update every 5 years. Town staff members served on the Planning Team formed and attended 3 meetings over the past 18 months. Davis adds this Plan is a comprehensive document to identify and guide mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce the effects of future disasters throughout the county. There is no fiscal impact to the town on this item. The meeting will be held in the Library Auditorium on Civic Circle.

The Town of Chino Valley has a new Interim Town Manager. During its meeting Tuesday night, Town Council appointed Robert Smith to serve in the interim until a permanent replacement is decided on. Smith has worked in public service for over 10 years in planning, economic development and city management. He was most recently the Director of Finance and Facilities for Kaplan College in Phoenix and he also served as City Manager for San Juan Bautista, California; the Town Administrator of Shallotte, North Carolina and has worked in the wireless communications infrastructure industry. Smith currently resides in Glendale with his wife of 24 years and their 2 teenage children.

Council interviewed 5 candidates for the position, with 3 of those candidates provided by Interim Public Management. This company provides seasoned Town Managers and Department Directors to Arizona cities undergoing changes in leadership.

Prescott’s Motor Lodge Hotel has received honors once again. For the 3rd year in a row, the motel has been honored with 2 Trip Advisor’s Traveler’s Choice awards. The lodging property was ranked number 3 in the nation in the Best Service category and Number 6 in the nation for Bargain Hotels. Co-owners Joe Livingston and Brian Spear purchased the property in 2009 and renamed the Cottages at Prescott Country Inn. After ongoing renovation, the Motor Lodge is currently the Number 1 ranked hotel in Prescott on tripadvisor.com. The Adobe Grand Villas in Sedona is ranked 13th on the list of Top 25 hotels in the United States and the Canyon Villa, also in Sedona is ranked 3rd on the Top 25 list of Bed and Breakfasts and Inns in the United States. In other travel news, the City of Prescott’s Tourism Office will be represented at the 14th annual Los Angeles Times Travel Show in California tomorrow through Sunday.

The Arizona Sundogs have come out winless on their 2 game road trip. After suffering a 2 to nothing shutout loss to the Allen Americans Tuesday night, the Sundogs traveled to Wichita, Kansas to take on the 1st place Thunder. At Tim’s Toyota Center last Wednesday, Arizona was able to get a point in the standings after forcing Wichita into overtime and then a shootout where the Thunder got the 2 to 1 win. In last night’s game, Wichita’s Kevin Seibel scored first before forward Craig MacDonald tied the game. The Thunder scored 2 more times in the 1st period for the 3 to 1 lead. In the second period, both teams each got 3 goals, with Kevin Petovello, Tyler Butler and Daymen Rycroft scoring for Arizona. Former Sundog Chris Greene scored his 3rd goal of the season and Seibel completed a hat trick in the final period for the 8 to 4 win. The Sundogs will play a 2 game series at Tim’s Toyota Center this weekend against the Fort Wayne Komets before heading back on the road for 11 games in February.

A Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce Board member has called it quits. Prescott City Councilman Chris Kuknyo was first elected to the Board in 2007 and he served as Chair and Vice-chair.

Kuknyo’s term doesn’t expire until June 2013, but he has decided to leave now, citing the need for expending his energies and time in the best interest of the City of Prescott and the continued growth of his business, Patriot Disposal. Kuknyo, who was elected to Council last November, says he had some things to finish up before leaving the Board:

Chamber CEO Marnie Uhl and Board Chairman Steve Bracety say Kuknyo will be missed. His term will be filled by appointment from the Chamber membership.
