The next update will be Friday morning, September 23

Fire fighters continue to improve and secure the control line around the perimeter of the fire and begin to mop-up. Mop-up is a process of extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines, felling snags, and trenching logs to prevent them from rolling. With the heavy dead and down fuel in the area this process will take a few days to make sure the area around the fire is safe.

Also, according to an update by the Groom Creek Fire Department, "The Groom Creek Fire District is assisting the USFS with the Lookout Fire located about 5 miles south of Groom Creek. We have a water tender assisting at the helibase which is located at Prescott Pines Camp. The helicopters are using Goldwater Lake to refill their tanks – so you will be hearing helicopters in the area."

REMINDER:
Lower Wolf Creek Campground has been closed to the public until further notice. The campground will be used as base camp for fire fighters and equipment.
We ask that vehicles traveling on Lower Wolf Creek Road and Senator Highway please be careful as you may encounter emergency vehicles traveling at all hours of the day to help support the incident.
