Bump it!
Update: Judge Bolton has ruled that while most of SB1070 will become law, she has blocked or put other provisions on hold. You can read more here. If all goes as expected, tomorrow is the day that SB 1070 will become law in the State of Arizona. Certainly, Judge Susan Bolton, who is considering the merits of several lawsuits against SB 1070, is the great unknown factor in this unfolding drama - she could simply allow the law to take effect or suspend all or partial enforcement of the law by the end of today. Senate Bill 1070, authored by Arizona Senator Russell Pearce, states its intent in the first section of the law: The legislature finds that there is a compelling interest in the cooperative enforcement of federal immigration laws throughout all of Arizona. The legislature declares that the intent of this act is to make attrition through enforcement the public policy of all state and local government agencies in Arizona. The provisions of this act are intended to work together to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens and economic activity by persons unlawfully present in the United States. When Governor Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law, she issued a statement that read in part, "I’ve decided to sign Senate Bill 1070 into law because, though many people disagree, I firmly believe it represents what’s best for Arizona. Border-related violence and crime due to illegal immigration are critically important issues to the people of our state, to my Administration and to me, as your Governor and as a citizen." Senator Pearce attended the Freedom Rally held in Prescott Valley on Saturday, and he spoke to the several thousand people gathered for the event:
Afterwards, KQNA's Bill Monroe interviewed Pearce, who expressed his confidence that Judge Bolton will uphold the majority, if not all of SB 1070:

And talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time, TCP?

How, pray tell, do you think the budget got out of balance? Methinks you need to hit the books yourself. Actually it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that more than half of the deficit is due to illegals taking (read 'stealing') our services, education and health care that are specifically intended for our LEGAL citizens...you know, the ones that pay taxes. There is nothing in SB 1070 that isn't covered in the federal law. It just guarantees that our state law enforcement agencies can protect Arizonans, when the feds won't. It's a sad day in America when Americans aren't pulling for America.
, Hey, Even I can write a bad law. written by TCP, July 28, 2010
Back to school, Mr. Pearce. And this time pay attention in civics class, please reread the parts of class that deal with the US Constitution and State vs Federal Rights. I think maybe Arizona Senators should think twice when they wish to usurp Federal authority that was granted to them explicitly in the US Constitution. This happened before. several states wished to excerpt federal authority and granted themselves "states rights" you remember it don't you Mr. Pearce? We went to war, States threatened and pulled out of the Union because of their "rights" to enforce slavery. but that time Arizona was on the winning side. But hundreds of thousands of American's lost their lives because of political foolishness. Arizona has more problems that are solvable by the State than immigration..we need to balance the budget we still are several billion in the red and still no solution EXCEPT to get off the subject by a clever rhubarb to get people to forget outr real problems solvable by real Arizona legislators.
