It was Volunteer Day at Granite Creek Park on Saturday.

At 8:00 am on Saturday, over 40 volunteers met at Granite Creek Park to begin a project that had been in the planning stages for about 2 months.

It was late November the City was approached by CareScape, a local landscape company seeking a community service project to benefit the entire community, taking advantage of their company's expertise. Frank Abbott, General Manager for Northern Arizona, talked to Mayor Kuykendall about the idea. He was put in contact with the Cities Parks and Recreation department and together they came up with the project that gave Granite Creek Park and portions of the Greenways trail system a good spring clean up and trimming.

Over 80 cubic yards of green waste was collected. Eric Smith, Special Projects Coordinator for the City of Prescott Parks and Recreation department said the tree trimming that was performed by CareScape arborists was long overdue and took care of some visibility and overhang issues. In addition to the tree work volunteers who were donating their time and expertise were able to accomplish minor trail repairs, raking and dethatching all turf areas.

CareScape was joined in the effort by other local businesses including Adams Automotive ,High Gear Bike Shop and My kids' Dentist. At the completion of a very productive day workers were treated to a well deserved barbeque supplied by CareScape and prepared by City of Prescott Parks and Recreation staff.

"Events like this remind me of what a special community we live in," Baynes said.

Any companies interested in service projects through the Parks and Recreation department are encouraged to contact Eric Smith at 777-1590
