Today's the Centennial, and Prescott's the first Territorial Capitol, so of course we're celebrating big time right here in Yavapai County.
Yavapai County Tree Ceremony 11:00 AM:
A new Centennial tree will be planted on the Courthouse Square. (Another one was planted at the Camp Verde Complex earlier.)
Statehood Day Celebration honoring Arizona’s 100th birthday at the Elks Theater 1pm:
A large-scale event at the Elks Opera House featuring the opening and reburial of a Time Capsule placed in a cornerstone during the 1962 dedication of the then new City Hall, the dedication of community-donated engraved pavers in Centennial Circle plus the introduction of a new Centennial song to be sung by an all-Prescott Elementary School”, a chorus of 4th graders and performances by the Prescott H.S. band, and Show Choir, and a Mile High and Granite Mt. Middle School orchestra.
Presentations by local and visiting dignitaries, an introduction to the current City-Council-appointed Centennians and future Sesquicentennians, a visit from well-loved historic characters, reflections on early life in Prescott by long-time residents, and a display and salute by City emergency vehicles, joined by other local whistles and bells.
A display of the state’s largest 48-star flag, a color guard, and a demonstration by City EMT’s, among other activities.
Yavapai County Gala at Tim's Toyota Center: 6 pm
There's a dinner at 6 pm (which is sold out); a concert at 7 pm and then fireworks at 9 pm.
