YCSO Seeking Aggravated Assault Suspect after He Attempts to Ram Police Vehicles

At approximately 12:40 AM this morning, a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Thomas Keller Mitchell. The incident occurred on Highway 69 near Spring Valley heading toward Mayer. Mitchell’s vehicle is a 1999 Dodge Pickup, royal blue with chrome step sides, Arizona license ASK8304. Mitchell had been under surveillance in the Phoenix area regarding ongoing drug sales occurring in Yavapai County. Detectives later found him driving on Highway 69 in Yavapai County.

When the deputy initially activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle for an equipment violation, Mitchell accelerated and fled, nearly striking two unmarked police vehicles. The deputy continued to follow Mitchell’s vehicle at speeds exceeding 85 mph, but Mitchell failed to pull over. As Mitchell was nearing the Mayer/Dewey area, it was determined to terminate the pursuit for the safety of other motorists on the roadway. The pick-up was last seen turning onto a dirt road just east of Mayer and drove out of sight.

Efforts to locate Mitchell since the pursuit have been unsuccessful. Currently, Mitchell is wanted for Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement and Unlawful Fight from Pursing Law Enforcement Vehicle. Mitchell is currently out on bond from a prior drug possession arrest. Mitchell is considered dangerous and has violent tendencies as evidenced by his behavior in this incident. YCSO Detectives are seeking any information on Mitchell’s whereabouts. If you see Mitchell, call 911. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232 and will become eligible for a reward if the tip leads to his arrest. Mitchell may be staying in either the Dewey or Prescott areas.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or the YCSO website: www.ycsoaz.gov
