July 4, 2008 - YCSO Investigators have released a few additional details regarding the murder of Virginia Kennedy on July 2nd.

The original welfare check request to YCSO came from the victim’s mother who is located out of state. She had been on the phone with Virginia during the 8 P.M. hour when the conversation abruptly ended causing her to contact YCSO and request an urgent check of her daughter’s welfare. Deputies were notified immediately, arrived at the home on Bridle Path and found Virginia murdered inside.

Detectives have determined Virginia was home alone at the time of her death. The manner of death is being withheld, as the investigation remains active. Detectives believe Virginia was not aware she was in any danger.

The medical examiner conducted an autopsy late yesterday and detectives are now working with a forensic anthropologist to determine the means and cause of death. Evidence technicians from the Department of Public Safety, Crime Lab Section, were on scene yesterday and took several items of evidence for testing. Detectives are continuing their investigation throughout the day as they wait for test results from the DPS Crime Lab.

Detectives are still asking anyone with information about this case, including those who may have seen suspicious activity around the Bridle Path home on the evening of July 2nd, to please contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232 or call the YCSO business line at 1-928-771-3260 and ask for the lead detective on the case, Doug Brown.
