Tough game with the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday night, although the 'Dogs showed heart with a late surge.

Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs lost against the Tulsa Oilers Tuesday night at Tim’s Toyota Center, 5-3 despite their late surge in the third. With the loss against the Oilers the Sundogs fell to eighth place in the standings, trailing two points behind Tulsa.

Ben Gordon stole the game for the Tulsa Oilers posting five points including a hat trick with three goals and two assists. The Oilers held off the Sundogs after 20 minutes of play, putting up two goals, with the first coming 11:00 minutes into the period and the second, a shorthanded goal with 14 seconds left in the first, after Nathan Lutz was called for hooking. Both first period goals were registered by Gordon. He posted his third goal 3:59 into the second, unassisted and Tulsa picked up their fourth goal and game winner, when Adam Pleskach lit the lamp halfway through the period. The Sundogs got on the board 16:48 into the middle period when Bryan Cameron poked the puck past Tulsa goalie, Shane Madolora with assists from Kevin Baker and Michael Couch.

The Oilers wasted no time in the third registering their fifth and final goal of the night 1:48 into the period by Ryan Menei. Less than a minute later Sebastian Geoffrion tallied Arizona’s second goal with helpers from Johan Ryd and Mark Isherwood. Sundogs head coach elected to pull their goalie, Chris Rawlings with 2:33 left in regulation and six seconds later Matt McCready scored with the extra attacker. Couch picked up his second point of the night and Jason Morgan also received credit with an assist. Hoping to keep things going the Sundogs kept their goalie pulled for the remaining two minutes giving them the man-advantage which Arizona was unable to convert.

Andrew Engelage tallied the loss for Arizona after he started Tuesday’s game, blocking 12 of 15 shots faced. Rawlings closed out the game making 14 saves of 16 shots. Arizona outshot Tulsa 34-31 and neither team scored on the man-advantage. The Sundogs were 0-2 on the power play and the Oilers were 0-4.

Both teams meet Wednesday night at Tim’s Toyota Center for their final regular season game when the action starts at 6:35.
