The Arizona Sundogs fell short against the Denver Cutthroats in a 3-2 loss at Tim’s Toyota Center Friday night.

Denver held off Arizona after Steve Kaunisto tallied the game winner with 1:11 left in the final frame.  The opening period remained scoreless until Garett Bembridge broke the silence 19:28 into the first period with assists from Troy Schwab and Aaron MacKenzie.  The Sundogs shatter their silence when Brandon Coccimiglio scored, tying the game 16:27 into the second.  Paul Mcilveen and Travis Ouellette each picked up an assist.

The third period came alive as Denver tallied two goals, including their game winner and Arizona posted a goal giving them a brief chance of notching a win.  Coccimiglio scored on the power play his second goal of the night halfway through the period.  Jean-Phillip Chabot was given a two minute slashing minor that provided Arizona’s scoring opportunity in the final period.  Matt McCready and Travis Ouellette each collected an assist and Ouellette tallied his second point of the night.  The Sundogs pulled their goalie with 48 seconds remaining in regulation giving them a six-man advantage and a few close opportunities which they couldn’t convert.

Both goaltenders kept a close match as Andrew Engelage blocked 27 of 30 shots.  Arizona outshot Denver 41-30.  Arizona was 1-3 on the power play and Denver was 0-4 on the power play.  The teams meet again tomorrow night when the puck drops at 7:05pm at Tim’s Toyota Center
