Prescott Valley, AZ – The game was decided in the final minutes of play when the Arizona Sundogs lost a tough battle against the Allen Americans with a 2-1 loss at the Allen Event Center Tuesday night.
The opening frame remained scoreless between the Arizona Sundogs and the Allen Americans. Arizona received an early advantage picking up a 5-on-3 power play for 46 seconds when Darryl Bootland was called for holding and Trevor Ludwig was called for cross-checking, though the Sundogs were unable to convert the opportunity into a goal.
Incredible goaltending by David Brown and Aaron Dell held the game scoreless through two periods of play. The Americans outshot the Sundogs 11-8 in the second period.
Arizona’s Derek LeBlanc finally broke the drought 11:16 into the final period when he scored an unassisted goal. Less than three minutes later, Allen answered back with a power play goal when Jeff Kyrzakos was issued two minutes for cross-checking. With two minutes remaining in regulation, Adam Pineault scored the game winning goal for the Americans.
David Brown took the loss for Arizona making 33 saves. Arizona was outshot 35-24. Arizona was 0-2 on the power play and Allen was 1-2 on the power play. The Sundogs return home to conclude their 2012-13 regular season, when they host the Wichita Thunder for a set of games on Friday and Saturday.
