After a pair of road games to Kingman (Lee Williams) and Bullhead City (Mohave), the Badgers were ready for some home cooking, or so they thought. Mingus Union, who got beat up last week by Bradshaw Mountain rebounded strongly, beating the Prescott Badgers 38-6 at Bill Shepard Field, on a scoreboard-less Friday night. Yep, even the scoreboard was out. Router issues was the topic of that issue, as the Badgers remain winless at home this season.

Prescott took the opening kickoff and marched down the field, but had to settle for a 26 yard field by Bryce Peters, when the drive stalled at the Mingus 9 yard line.

Garrett Fenderson recovered a Marauder fumble to kill a Mingus drive at the Badgers 25, when the Mingus quarterback collided with running back Alex Nelson.

Prescott was moving the ball at the beginning of the second quarter but an Austin Clark pass to 28 was picked off by Tyler Kelly at midfield.

The Marauders took a 6-3 lead on a Tyler Kelly 4 yard run off tackle with just over five minutes left in the first half. Mingus extended the lead to 12-3 on a Antoine Zabala pass to Tyler Kelly out of the backfield. Kelly took the ball and tightroped the far sideline for the TD.

Down by nine, the Badgers had a great chance to score stripped away on a great play by Martin Soria has he caught Ryan Greene, knocking the ball out of Greene's hands. Alex Nelson was right behind to fall on the ball at the Mingus 22 with 2:41 left in the half.

Mingus had one final first half attempt, but an incomplete pass in the end zone was the final play of the first half.

The Marauders played the second half like a well oiled machine as they took the kickoff and went 64 yards on seven plays capped off by a Martin Soria run from 8 yards out.
Aaron Greene denied the two point conversion, but Prescott trailed 18-3 with 6:55 left in the third.

The Badger offense showed some life temporarily when QB Austin Clark hit John Chaffeur on back to back passes to the Mingus 17. Once again the Marauder defense rose to the occasion forcing the Badgers to settle on a Bryce Peters 29 yard FG with 2:20 left in the third quarter.

Hunter Kronberg made his presence felt when he stripped the ball from Martin Soria's hands as he was on his way for six. Prescott turned the ball over on downs at the Marauder 33, as a Clark pass fell short to Chaffeur, and the Mingus offense took over.

Alex Nelson extended the Mingus lead to 25-6, on a 35 run off tackle with 10:44 left.
Prescott quarterback Austin Clark hit Ryan Greene in stride with a 36 yard pass play to the Marauder 14, but the Badger offense turned the ball over on downs.

Mingus went 86 yards on 8 plays to tack on another when Alex Nelson punched it in from 5 yards out with under four minutes to play. The PAT made it 31-6 Mingus.
The last score came with about three minutes left when Tyler Kelly bolted 85 yards.

Coach Gilpin said, "We have three games left and if we play well we can win all of them. Mingus is legendary for being tough and hard nosed. We were just not ready for it."

It was a tough night for Ryan Greene as he was able to manage 47 yards rushing. Greene set the all-time Badger rushing touchdown mark last week at Mohave.

Quarterback Austin Clark threw for 108 yards on the night. Prescott failed to take advantage of three Marauder fumbles.

Prescott drops to (2-1) in league and (4-3) overall and will play at Coconino next Friday at 7pm. Mingus Union improves to (3-1) and (3-4).
