Prescott Valley Police Department Adds Two School Resource Officers to Team

The Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) has added two more school resource officers (SRO), bringing the total of four SROs to serve in Humboldt Unified School District (HUSD). The four SROs include Officers April Zicopoulous, Amanda Caswell, Matthew Shaul, and Randy Busby. The SROs are led by Lieutenant Nancy Roberts and Sergeant Tony Lawrence. Officer Zicopoulos has been an SRO since 2022 and worked alongside Officer Mike Myrmel, who retired earlier this year. Officers Caswell, Shaul, and Busby are new to the SRO program. Officer Caswell has been with the PVPD since 2016, Officer Shaul has been with the PVPD since 2021, and Officer Busby has served with the PVPD since 2013.

For the 2023-24 school year, the renewed Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) provides four SROs to cover all HUSD public schools, excluding Humboldt Elementary School which is in Yavapai County Sheriff’s jurisdiction. The salaries for the officers are budgeted between the Town of Prescott Valley and HUSD, each covering one half.

The additional SROs add a level of security and safety for Prescott Valley students. SROs are carefully selected, specifically trained, sworn law enforcement officers assigned by the department to work with schools using community-oriented policing concepts. The SROs will rotate school visitations throughout each week.
