Prescott Lights the Courthouse in Celebration of Christmas
Featured

04 December 2017

Thousands of people gathered on the Square in downtown Prescott to witness the traditional lighting of the Courthouse and trees.

Did you miss the Courthouse lighting? No worries, we have it here for you to watch.

For 63 years, people of Prescott have gathered downtown to hear the Christmas Story and see the lights turned on for the season. It’s a time of wonder and awe for people of all ages. This year, an estimated 8,000 people filled the north side of the Courthouse grounds as children sang hymns and former Secretary of State Ken Bennett read the Christmas story.

This is Bennett’s 25th year to read the Christmas story, but he’s been a part of the celebration for a lot longer than that. After the ceremony, Bennett explained what it was like when he was a child to sing on the Courthouse steps. Some things have stayed the same, such as the script and the song choices. But other things have evolved over time.
