Award-winning National Geographic Photographer gives talk on Mongolia

Join award-winning photographer David Edwards on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 1:00 pm as he presents Distant Hoofbeats: A Remaining Horse Culture at the Phippen Museum. This special lecture traces the history of the Kazakh Eagle hunters of Mongolia, one of the last remaining true horse cultures in the world. This special presentation is open to the public and free with museum admission.

Dave Edwards has been a freelance photographer and expedition guide for more than 30 years. He has traveled extensively throughout Asia, documenting and exploring many native cultures. He is especially noted for his experiences and intimate relationship with Mongolia. Edwards founded the Flagstaff International Relief Effort, a non-profit organization dedicated to the collection and distribution of winter clothing and medical supplies to the impoverished population of Mongolia. His current documentary projects range from the indigenous culture of the Tibetan region to the endangered Condors of the Vermillion Cliffs in Arizona. In addition, he also continues to teach and present lectures on photography, Mongolia and the Grand Canyon.

Edwards’ story about the Kazakh Eagle Hunters of Western Mongolia appeared in the September 1999 issue of National Geographic Magazine and one his accompanying images was chosen as one of National Geographic’s 100 Best Pictures.

The Phippen Museum is located just a few minutes north of downtown Prescott at 4701 Highway 89 North. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for AAA members, $5 for Students with ID and FREE for Museum Members and children twelve and under. For additional information, please contact the museum at 928.778.1385, or visit their website at www.phippenartmuseum.org.
