Controlled Release of Two City Dams begins Monday March 20, 2023 – City of Prescott

Motorists and Hikers Should Exercise Caution in the Area

With high lake levels, and impending storms, the City of Prescott will perform a controlled release of water from both Willow Creek Dam (Willow Lake) and Granite Creek Dam (Watson Lake).   This release will continue until after the approaching storm events have subsided to keep the lakes at safe levels. Please be aware that strong currents will exist near the dam and spillways at each lake.  Also, Granite Creek, Willow Creek and other local tributaries will be flowing at higher than normal levels.   Do not attempt to enter low water crossings.  As little as 12 inches of flow can cause a car to float downstream.  Use caution and seek alternate routes.  Avoid trails that intersect any waterway as they will also be affected.  The City of Prescott will release new information as it becomes available.
