Congressman Paul Gosar’s Statement on the President’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-01) released the following statement after the President’s State of the Union Address:

“The nation is truly at a unique moment in history. Either we can continue business as usual or begin to rein in spending and get our economy back on track. While our nation is united in our mission to create jobs, we do disagree on the best path to get there. I applaud the President for his commitment to bipartisanship and bringing our country together and I intend on vigorously participating in the debate so that the voice of my district is heard. While I may have a different viewpoint from another Member of Congress, I still think it’s important we allow everyone to share their ideas- that is why I participated in the bipartisan seating tonight.

“Tonight we heard a lot of ambitious ideas from President Obama. From green technology to innovation to ending subsidies to high speed rail, he put forward his solutions to put our nation back to work. My ideas on creating jobs differ from the President. I firmly believe that the government shouldn’t be dictating winners and losers; rather, we should create a level playing field for all to compete fairly. I also believe that innovation and growth come from the private sector when we empower small businesses and industry by creating a smaller, more nimble government that does away with duplicative regulations and burdensome red tape.

“I know that going forward we will have a lot to discuss and I look forward to coming back to Arizona and listening to the ideas of my constituents. We have to work hand in hand to find the best solutions for the problems that face our country. That is why I will bring the ideas of cutting spending, balancing the budget, and empowering Main Street to the Halls of Congress so that together we can ensure that our children and grandchildren have the tools they will need to succeed.”

Dr. Paul Gosar is serving his first term in Congress as the Representative to Arizona’s First Congressional District. As a healthcare provider and small business owner, Gosar is focused on bringing jobs back to the district, reforming health care, reining in government spending and ensuring that his constituents are involved in the solution process.
