The United States is currently witnessing a powerful and steady assault against the separation of church and state, and this affront threatens progressive values, human liberty, and environmental justice. As religious fundamentalists enact laws that erode secular government, fact-based education is jeopardized, discrimination is codified and basic human rights are subjugated to religious intolerance. Prescott College's Secular Student Alliance is pleased to present Sean Faircloth, of the Secular Coalition for America, speaking on "A Secular Vision of a Moral Government: One Nation Under the Constitution." Mr. Faircloth affirms the secular, enlightenment values articulated in our constitution and presents a vision for a secular decade of informed, engaged citizens working together for a freer, more compassionate future.

Sean Faircloth is the Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America, a 501(c)4 advocacy organization located in Washington, D.C., whose purpose is to amplify the diverse and growing voice of the nontheistic community in the United States. Coalition member organizations, including Secular Student Alliance, are established 501(c)3 nonprofits who serve atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers and other nontheistic Americans. Mr. Faircloth was hired as the Secular Coalition for America’s Executive Director in June of 2009. He served a decade in the Maine State Legislature and in his last term was elected Majority Whip by his colleagues. Faircloth was an accomplished legislator with numerous legislative successes in children's issues and justice system reform.

The Secular Student Alliance at Prescott College promotes the ideals of scientific and critical inquiry, democracy, secularism and naturalistic ethics. We accomplish this through five areas of focus: education, service, activism, community and cooperation. Our goals are to: educate ourselves and our communities about religion and nontheism; contribute to society through community service; participate in our government through activism; build a community for nontheists at Prescott College; cooperate with other groups of both similar and dissimilar viewpoints to foster understanding and communication.

Prescott College offers a resident undergraduate program at its main campus in Prescott, Ariz., as well as low-residency bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in which students complete their studies in their home communities with the help of faculty mentors. All programs emphasize student-directed, experience-based learning-by-doing, environmental and cultural awareness, and social justice.
