PRESCOTT, AZ—Ben Furlong, two-term chairman of the Yavapai County Democratic Party, will address the monthly luncheon meeting of the Democratic Women of the Prescott Area, (DWPA) on January 18 at 11 a.m. at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, 4499 E. State Route 69 in Prescott at Old Black Canyon Road.
Furlong, a lifelong educator and administrator in Arizona schools, has been an Arizona resident since 1948 when his parents moved the family from Georgia for his mother's health. He was superintendent of the Kyrene Schools from '71-'87 when he retired. The Governing Board named the district facilities "Ben Furlong Education Center."
Furlong moved to Prescott in 1988, where he taught Educational Leadership and History of American Education for NAU. He's been active in the county Democratic party in a variety of roles, including chairman, secretary, precinct committeeperson and, currently, chairman of the messaging committee. The state party inducted Furlong into its Hall of Fame last December.
The DWPA welcomes all members of the public to attend the luncheon as guests. The organization's membership is open to any registered Democrat. It sponsors speakers at its monthly luncheon and provides scholarships to students and to women who want to pursue a political career, as well as financial support to the county party.
