Prescott, AZ – On Saturday, December 31st, 2011 from 8pm to 1am, Whiskey Row in downtown Prescott will be the site for the first ever “Boot Drop.” A 6-foot illuminated cowboy boot will be slowly lowered down The Palace Building’s 40-foot flagpole to ring in the New Year. Much like the custom in New York’s Times Square, where a large ball has dropped annually since 1907, the Boot Drop event planners hope this new Prescott event will become a tradition for years to come. “We’re excited to add this to a list of events that downtown Prescott hosts. This event should be pretty different and fun. There has not been anything like this on New Year’s Eve in Prescott, AZ. We hope this event will fulfill some good, clean fun,” stated Patrick Gallagher, Prescott Market Manager of Great Circle Radio Stations which is a major supporter of the event.
“The Boot” is being created by Stephan Markov of Morgan Signs to be lightweight so two people can lower the boot carefully utilizing a pulley system. It is entirely decorated with LED lights that come into play as the clock counts down.
“We decided to have two drops; one at 10pm and the second at midnight with fireworks. The early drop will coincide with the traditional “Ball Drop” back east as well as letting the folks who turn in early celebrate the New Year,” stated Steve Gottlieb, Manager and Director of Events of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club who is assisting with the event planning. A DJ from Great Circle Radio will be spinning tunes and there will be local food vendors and more, plus prize giveaways throughout the night!
