Hundreds of citizens took advantage of the free brush drop off event held at the Transfer Station this weekend.
"The City of Prescott Solid Waste & Wildland Divisions co-sponsored the event to assist in fire prevention measures," says Kim Kapin, city spokesman. "Residents lined up first thing in the morning to drop off their loads with assistance from the very congenial crew. By all accounts the program was a success and met its goal of reducing the amount of fuel for fire around the city."
The brush will be ground by city staff and made available for free to Prescott residents. According Field Operations Director Chad McDowell, the material makes excellent mulch and ground cover.
Across town in the Aubrey Street neighborhood, the Code Enforcement Division held a neighborhood clean-up event and collected over two tons of household waste and brush.
